Phone Cases With Stands: Built-In, Pop-Out, Or MagSafe?
Three ways to get a stand on your phone — ranked by how often you'll actually use it.
A built-in stand is one of those features people don't think they need until they've used one for a week. Three formats dominate, each with a different trade-off.
Built-in kickstand cases
A small metal flap that folds out of the back. Pros: always there, can't lose it. Cons: adds bulk, the hinge wears out around 6 months of daily use.
Pop-out grip + stand (PopSocket-style)
Sticks to the back of any case. Pros: doubles as a grip, very secure. Cons: blocks wireless charging, ruins the look of a printed case, leaves residue.
MagSafe / Qi2 ring stand
Magnetic ring that snaps on when needed. Pros: invisible when not in use, doesn't block wireless charging, swaps between phones. Cons: needs a magnetic case.
What most people end up loving
The MagSafe ring. You forget it's a feature until you're on a 30-minute video call propped on your kitchen counter.
